Somatic Experiencing® (SE-Informed) Therapy for Trauma

A gentle, body-based approach to healing trauma and chronic stress

Somatic Experiencing® (SE) is a compassionate, nervous-system–based approach to trauma healing. It recognizes that trauma doesn’t only live in our thoughts or memories—it also lives in the body. Even long after a painful or overwhelming experience has passed, your nervous system may still be stuck in survival mode (fight, flight, or freeze), leaving you feeling anxious, shut down, on edge, or easily overwhelmed.

As an SE-informed therapist, I integrate these principles into therapy in a way that is slow, respectful, and guided by your pace. Rather than reliving traumatic experiences, we focus on what your body is experiencing in the present moment and gently help your nervous system find more safety, stability, and ease.

What this work is like

SE-informed therapy is gentle and collaborative. We work in small, manageable pieces, noticing body sensations and tracking how your nervous system responds in real time. You stay in control of the process, and we move only as quickly as your system is ready. Many clients find this approach feels more grounded and less overwhelming than talk therapy alone.

This approach can help with:

  • Trauma and PTSD (including developmental or relational trauma)
  • Anxiety, panic, and hypervigilance
  • Emotional numbness or shutdown
  • Chronic stress and burnout
  • Trauma-related tension or pain
  • Feeling stuck, unsafe, or disconnected from yourself

Over time, many people notice they feel calmer, more grounded, less reactive, and more able to handle stress and emotions with steadiness and self-compassion.

A gentle path forward

Healing doesn’t have to mean pushing yourself or reliving painful experiences. SE-informed therapy offers a kind, body-centered way to support your nervous system in learning that it is safe again.

If you’re curious about whether this approach might be right for you, I’d be glad to talk more with you about it.
